Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview published on Tuesday that he saw little chance at the moment of reviving a 2015 deal to limit Iran's nuclear programme.

MOSCOW (Reuters) -Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iran's foreign minister on Monday there was no justification for the U.S. bombing of his country and that Moscow was trying to help the Iranian people.

Iran’s top diplomat said he planned to fly to Moscow and would meet Russia’s President Vladimir Putin tomorrow morning. “Russia is a friend of Iran,” Abbas Araghchi said at a press briefing in Istanbul.

This week’s NATO summit isn’t about the U.S. strikes on Iran, but Iran will be a topic because of its drone supplies to Russia, said alliance Secretary-General Mark Rutte. NATO leaders meet in The Hague on Tuesday to approve big spending increases.

The two-day gathering is also intended to signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin that NATO is united, despite Trump's previous criticism of the alliance, and determined to expand and upgrade its defences to deter any attack from Moscow.

Iran’s foreign minister is in Moscow seeking support, but other than condemning the attack, Putin has not made any major moves to back Iran.

Russia condemned the U.S.'s strikes against Iran, describing them as a "dangerous escalation" and a violation of international law.

In the wake of President Donald Trump's strike on Iran's nuclear sites, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Sunday that "a number of countries" are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear weapons.
