On Saturday, June 21, a tradition of that surf culture, a “paddle out” to celebrate a life, was held at the iconic Huntington Beach Pier for Brian Wilson, one of The Beach Boys’ founders and co-writer of the famous song that became the namesake of the beach town.

Brian Wilson, leader, songwriter and producer of the Beach Boys, has passed away at age 82. He leaves behind a legacy of beautiful, joyous, bittersweet and enduring music, crafted over a career spanning six decades.

Two "Pet Sounds" highlights, the former featuring envelope-pushing instrumentation and production and the latter, a deceptively complex harmonic structure as well as lyrics that were, at that point, taboo for a pop song because of the repeated references to God. The Beatles' Paul McCartney named "God Only Knows" his favorite song of all time.
